Evaluation . . .

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of a real media products?

- The sub genre of our thriller opening that we have created is a horror. The whole idea of the moped and the character pulling over was because of the openings of thriller films we watched for idea, the main film we took the idea from was Vacancy which also has a sub genre of horror. The opening of Vacancy starts with the car driving down a dark road in the middle of nowhere and as every other horror film does the car happens to breakdown in the middle of the road and there is nowhere to go other then a garage which was a few miles past them. So our idea was obviously the moped however it doesn't breakdown the character has to pull over because of his flashbacks and then it just happens that the moped doesn't start.
Our media product uses traditional conventions of a thriller e.g. quick cuts , music that builds the tension, also there is a voice over which is a mysterious, low voice which creates mystery.
Many thrillers keep the audience guessing I think our opening does that as you want to no why the character is drinking why he pulls over on his bike and what is going to happen to the character.
We tried to follow the conventions of a traditional thriller and not change to much the only thing that normal thriller horrors have are dark mysterious locations and lots of shadows. Ours didn't have that though we tried to create an atmosphere by having no colour in the opening so its all black and white and then at the end of the opening we have the orange of the sunset.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The particular social groups we have focused on in our media product is teenagers the reason for this is that is it is the same age for our target audience as many people that watch thrillers with a sub genre of horror. Another reason we have represented teenagers as we are at college there is may people in that age group that we can use as our actors. We also use a very stereotypical view of teenagers as he his drinking pretty much all the way through the opening also on a moped and that is what many teenage males drive around on.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The sort of media institution that would distribute our media product would be film companies which would release it to the public through the cinemas.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for our media product is obviously the public and who ever wants to watch it however we have mainly based it for teenagers as our main character is that age and people will be able to relate to him as he is drinking to drown his sorrows and I'm pretty sure teenagers will be able to relate to some of the characters problems. The audience will also be people who like thriller films so they like surprises and the tension and suspense that most thriller films have. Also as our film opening has the sub-genre of horror it will be people who enjoy horror films.

5. How did you attract/ address your audience?

We attracted and address our audience by having people come in and watch our opening half way through our editing process and then we did it again once we finished editing so they could see the processes we went though to create our final product. To collect their feedback we gave them a questionnaire to fill in the first time so we included what they would like to see.

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

In the process of making our thriller opening I have learnt quite a bit about the technology used and how long it actually takes to create a whole film, it took long enough to make the opening. It also showed how much time and effort actually is used to create the films that we sit and watch. The technology I have learnt to use the most is the apple macs and the software we were using to edit our opening which was final cut express at the beginning I had no idea what I was doing however now I think I could confidently edit something to the way I want it on there.

7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Looking back at the preliminary task we did I think I have learnt quite a lot in the progression to the full product. I learnt about the different camera shot and which one work better together then others.
